More Tips for Caring for Your Houseplants

If you are using tap water on your plants, let it sit out for at least 24 hours before you use it. This will allow the chlorine treatment chemicals to evaporate from it. Also it will be room temperature, the same temperature as the plant’s root system.

Water and feed your plants in the morning. Plants need light and carbon dioxide to turn that fertilizer into usable food, so there’s no use feeding them at night when they are sleeping. (Yes, their systems change at night.)

When you acquire a new plant to bring home, be sure to check it for aphids and scale and other pests and diseases. Aphids are little white insects you can see usually on the undersides of leaves. Scale is actually a mite (one of hundreds of species) and you will notice scale as little bumps on stems. Being diligent about this will keep all of your indoor plants healthy and pest free.
