Tea Time Goodness

There’s nothing like a cup of tea to warm you up when you feel the winter chill. Besides great taste, you may want to choose your tea with a medicinal boost in mind.

Echinacea has been scrutinized here in the US lately, with some studies done in an attempt to dispel claims of its healing properties. For the most part, they were sloppily managed and inconclusive, and I choose to put my faith in the European studies and traditions. They indicate that Echinacea provides real immune support by stimulating white blood cells to attack bacteria and viruses. Drinking Echinacea tea when you have been exposed to a cold or flu can help your body fight it off. If you have a sore throat, try gargling with hot Echinacea tea. This plant was used more than any other by the Plains Indians, and Echinacea  was a popular medicine throughout the US in the first part of the 20th century. In Europe it is used to treat colds , flu, and infection, and even for urinary tract infections and some cancers. Echinacea is also used to treat upper respiratory problems.

Try a little honey in hot Echinacea tea, or add a touch of clove or cinnamon.
