Naturalized Spring Bulbs
Naturalizing your plantings gives you an easy way to provide a wild, free look to your yard or garden. About 20 years ago, I purchased several types of spring bulbs and scattered them throughout an area of the woods near our house. Over the years, they haveĀ multiplied to cover a large area every spring with lovely blooms. I must say that I used to have tulips, which were lost to some hungry gophers or other gnawing creatures…possibly chipmunks or squirrels? Whoever the culprits were, they found the tulip bulbs to be tastier than the jonquils.
This view is of only a few of the naturalized bulbs in the woods. Wherever there is a clump of bulbs now, there was originally only one bulb. About 5 years ago, I divided each clump and spread the bulbs apart more, so the covered area is now quite large. It’s time to divide again from the looks of these crowded clumps!
